The Community is the Computer

Power Developer Software Distribution

We will suggest a variation to the network is the computer, the highly regarded marketing moniker of Sun Microsystems (NASDAQ:SUNW). You can put open or closed source development in those boxes at the top of the diagram shown. In fact, today we have added Sony PlayStation® 3 Linux Platform Support at Power Developer just to make that point.

We could also title this entry: It's not the Platform, it's the People!

One of the things we have learned from computer-generated research is that there is one "social law" that bears out over and over again. Here it is: "the difference between groups is always less than the difference within the groups." So, a group of, for example, scientists and a group of, say, school children are less different between the two groups than within each of the groups themselves. Hence, in marketing to any group there are consistencies that always need to be accounted. One is that in marketing we must put the entity to which or whom we are communicating first. So, if we were marketing oil for home heating, we would talk about warmth not oil since warmth is what the consumer wants. If we are talking about what developers and users can do with a computing platform what better reflective use aspect of the product than Community. The Community is found at the top of the image and participation in that Community breeds all good things - and not just software (and likerabbits).

You may want to tell us that as we are marketing to experts in technology or longtime users that they don't want or need this sort of trigger message. If so, please refer to the social law mentioned. It makes it more fun when you can always put people first. Marketing is emotional and then informational or it is dead, not alive. We don't think it is about the processor. The Power of Community is about participation and change. We are making some changes and taking a new road. Please join us! Êtes-vous un citoyen du monde ?
