FOSDEM 2006

FOSDEM looks like it was a big success. The topic was covered well in this week's Gentoo Weekly Newsletter. Our feeling is that Gentoo is not only a leading GNU/Linux distribution, but has a leading organization to match. We like their organized and open approach!

We also heard good things about the SUSE DevRoom and it is nice to see the pick up for POWER on all fronts.

...as in map scale.

A Microsoft alternative – the torrent of open source software – a transition to subscription, services/support and distribution

All software is moving to open source. Beginning on the developer’s desktop to the general market to more specific specialty markets, such as, financial, health care, industrial and military. Led by GNU/Linux, other options such as Solaris portend to the vast changes coming to the computing platforms.

Working smarter and ahead

The Power.org worldwide Developer Conference will be in Q3. Yesterday, as we started to concept the Event some one (from IBM interestingly) mentioned the early JavaOne Conferences. We never went to one of those. Any one with any experience in that regard please drop us a line or post on the Developer Conference thread.

Working smarter and ahead

The Power.org worldwide Developer Conference will be in Q3. Genesi got the nod yesterday to help plan it and make it happen. We have a budget and a host of supporting Members. This will be an Event you will not want to miss!

More details soon.

The EFIKA Developer Program is getting good coverage over on Power.org. We have plenty of Developers ready to start, but we are certainly open for more.

Please sign up!

We have also opened up the registration for the Dual 970MP based Open Server Workstation (Power to the People, v3.0). This machine will be CELL compatible. Stop by and check it out at PPCZone Projects.

Well, well, here we have an up and comer! Nice to meet you Savvica. We are going to use your service to launch a Project around the transfer of knowledge for the use and manufacture of the EFIKA. We have plenty of Developers ready to make stuff, now we need to build a base of people to use it.

The Latest and Greatest!

Ed Note: Did you notice OpenSolaris was mentioned?! ;-)

Low Power, Low Temperature, High Reliability and Everything Else

If you have a question, the best place to start is at the recently updated IBM Article that we wrote some time ago (they just made new diagrams; the content stayed the same) or click through the image above to Avalanche DMRP Project. What works in this way can be applied to many domains, including industrial controls, the automotive sector, STBs, etc., etc.

It has been suggested by a Journalist we know and respect (who happens also to be an ODW user. Yeah!) that our blogs are gnomic. Quickly grabbing the French-English dictionary, (reads: aphorisme) Raquel laughed. Hum, I know what a Gnome is and I went to Nome once, but all I can remember is "true, short, sweet" - a definition carefully planted in my brain by a Teacher of my youth (thanks Mrs. Griffen!).
