After all that is what the Three Gorges Dam is all about. It is hailed in China as the modern engineering equivalent of the Great Wall. When it is finished it will be the largest hydroelectric dam in the world.

And, not a moment too soon! They are going to need all that electricity to power the hundreds of millions of electronic devices and computers destined to be needed there. Do you really think an economy with a 9% +/- GDP growth rate is going to be satisfied with fueling a worldwide trade deficit to China forever?! One day the Chinese are going to become net consumers! It looks like the next Great March has really begun. The next Cultural Revolution is underway!

Mao once said, "It doesn't matter whether a cat is black or white as long as it catches mice." Mao died in 1976.

OK, apologies to Cindy Lauper, but this is the big week for MySQL fans. They are all getting together HERE. Genesi is a Sponsor of the Event.

MySQL server 4.1 with Debian is the latest stable *certified* release for the Pegasos Server and is recommendable for use. We should have the Debian packages for MySQL 5.0 Beta ready this week before the end of the Conference. We recommend you use MySQL 4.1 today, while using MySQL 5.0 for development.

Maurie Ommerman of Freescale Computer Platform Division is at it again. Maurie has just released Application Note 2913. The latest AppNote is focused on how the build a cluster with the PegasosPPC/ODW. You can find it HERE:

OK men, now listen up!

This will be the last time you are clustered together like this. You're headed to China, Germany, Sweden, France, New Zealand, Korea, Gabon, Guatemala, Chile, Canada and the USA. Some of you will be servers like this on at SONY (Europe) running MySQL.

The AltiVec optimized Luminocity X-LiveDVD (with smart cards too!) for the ODW has been released. It is the cornerstone of the demos we will be showing in China this month. We will post more about this later. In the meanwhile, have a look!

Our hats are off to the Gentoo PowerPC Team! You are a motivated, well-organized group.

...or at least real differently! Nice artwork Steve!

This is a blog to first congratulate the Distributed Pegasos Team and the MorphOS-Team. MorphOS on PowerPC has climbed further into the top ten in the RC5-72 stats right after Solaris on X86. Not bad for two up and comers...;) We just need to get OpenSolaris on PowerPC into that line-up, but we will save that for another blog.

Here is the login screen of the smart card enabled Open Desktop Workstation:

To add icing to the makings of a cake, Pieter's ported the Sun GRID engine 6 to PowerPC. SGE6 and an Apple XGRID agent are both to be included on the upcoming LiveCDs/DVD we will be releasing soon.
